Welcome Spring with a laugh
As we usher in the new year in this brand-new decade, let’s go all-in with a huge dose of cheeky, light-hearted fun. May we present to you our Spring capsule that’s equal parts fun and nostalgic as we pay homage to the traditional outfits we’ve grown up with, but with our spin on it. As Johan Huizinga best puts it, “If we are to preserve culture, we must continue to create it.” Using various elements such as the drape of a sari, the neckline of a qipao, juxtaposed against the modern silhouette of a tent dress, our aim is to give a lighthearted feel to this capsule.
The making of this photoshoot highlights the coming together of different cultures and era. We set this photoshoot in a traditional photo studio in a shophouse in Little India, Singapore. It was a perfect fit for our Spring capsule!
Upon entering the studio, faces of strangers lined the walls, all the way up to the ceiling. The place sure has its own unique quirks, nothing like the studios we’ve visited in the past. Studios in this day and age have ample light and space, whereas this was something else altogether. It was quaint, had its own charm. From the quirky props on set to the vintage furniture all around, you start to feel instantly transported back to a different era.
Our model Mei really played along with this concept, like playing dress-up and then getting your photos taken at the studio against the “scenic” hand-painted backdrops that have been commonly replaced by mass-produced sets. There was a fun-spirited mood in the air as the shoot went on as we continued to unearth the unorthodox beauty of the studio. If only we had more time!
We hope that as you look through the photos, you share the same joy and maybe a few laughs as well. As we enter the new season, it’s nice to take a step back and savour the lighter moments. Smile! It’s the start of a brand new story.
